What a great weekend – Saturday night at the Apollo Bay RSL Club, sold out show, great crowd, great craic – and the Sunday session at the middle pub.
Really enjoyed meeting some of the locals and many thanks to Louey, Jimmy and Christy Cooney and all the crew for their hard work over the weekend.
There’s a bloke down there by the name of Roger who runs the raffles and keeps things ticking along – he’s got hands like shovels and is a dead ringer for Fred Brophy – turns out he actually fought in Fred’s tent a few times, small world.
Anyway, I sang him a song I wrote a few years ago about Brophy’s Tent – here’s the video we made of it, post it below so Roger can have a squizz.
Look forward to getting down there again soon…
Last Shanakee shows for the year and we can look back and reflect on a pretty solid 12 months for the band.
A good number of shows played, a good few pints drunk and a new album in the can.
Many thanks to Shanakee fans and friends, old and new, who come out and support us.
Thanks to the Bay Hotel in Mornington for their continued support and for the great gig. Thanks also to the Celtic Club and all other venues who have hosted us throughout the year.
Our first show for 2012 will be an Australia Day early afternoon concert at the Sorrento-Portsea RSL Club. Our new CD will be available then too.
We mastered Kieran’s brand spanking new album today with the inimitable Simon Polinski – an awesome experience and a fantastic result! Simon has a list of credits as long as the arms of a very long armed man – from Paul Kelly to The Church, Toni Childs to Andy White, he’s been involved with some of the greatest albums ever made. I felt very fortunate to sit there with the great man, talk with him and watch him work. Simon Polinski’s credits
He gave the album the thumbs up, by the way, which is always nice!
The album will be launched at the Celtic Club on Sunday, February 3rd.
Our vision of having Kieran’s album finished by Christmas looks like becoming a reality – we finished recording the last three songs Monday and Tuesday and I mixed it over the next couple of days – a few minor edits, mastering then we’ll be away! It’s going to be called The Road so Far and is Kieran’s first solo album.
As Charlie Watts said of being in The Stones for 25 years – ‘five years of playing and 20 years of waiting around’ – a sentiment no doubt shared by Mark as he takes a break during this week’s session…
The live recording from Dan’s Memorial concert is just about finished – we should have a tidy little 12 track CD available for sale in the not too distant future, featuring some of the highlights from that memorable night. Stay tuned…
The other big news is that we’ve locked in the recording dates for completing Kieran’s debut album as well – next Monday and Tuesday it’ll all happen and the completed album won’t be far behind that. Definitely a pre-Christmas (2012) release!
This Sunday morning you can hear us on the wireless as we play live to air on radio 3RPP – click on the link in the gig guide to your right and you can stream it online if you’re not in the area. Should be a cracker and a great way to warm up before our fantastic Sunday afternoon monthly residency at the Bay Hotel in Mornington.
